2023 1st Round Rookie Update

 


Week 1 Rookie Recap

The transition from college football to one of the most exclusive clubs in the world the NFL can be a daunting one. Being in the right situation with the right personnel around you and support is crucial and will effect the development of these young stars. Several of these young men were taken in the PML draft with hopes of turning around the respective franchise they were taken by immediately, while others are long term projects with an eye on the future to replace aging veterans. With Week 1 of the PML 2023 season almost in the books with just 2 remaining contests, let’s take a peak into how all of the 2023 1st Round draft picks fared in there inaugural contests. 

 

1. Dj Uiagalelei QB Detroit Lions

     17-29. 319 yards 4 TD 1 INT

After a slow start to the first half which saw the Lions trailing early, Uiagalelei showed exactly why they made the move up to #1 and it resulted in a 39-17 win at home over the Chiefs.

 

2. Bryce Young QB Green Bay Packers

     16-30 207 Yards 4 INT

It was tough sledding for Young in his first start under center as he was stymied by a stingy New Orleans defense that forced 4 interceptions and had 2 sacks in a 33-13 road loss.


3. Bryan Bresee DT Kansas City Chiefs 

Bresee did not register any stats in the 39-17 road loss at the hands of the Detroit Lions.

 

4. Tyreke Johnson CB Green Bay Packers

      3 Tackles

The Packers secondary did a good job holding the New Orleans Saints passing attack in check only allowing 220 yards through the air but it was not enough in the 33-13 road loss.

 

5. Julian Fleming WR Atlanta Falcons 

      1 Reception 13 Yards 1 TD

The new look Falcons offense exploded in a 41-35 road win over the Dallas Cowboys. Fleming had one reception on the day but made it count finding pay dirt.

 

6. KJ Henry LE Cleveland Browns

     2 Tackles 1 Sack

The pass rusher out of Clemson made an immediate impact in his debut as he helped keep the pressure on Lamar Jackson all afternoon in the 28-24 road win over the Baltimore Ravens.

 

7. Jaylon Jones CB Atlanta Falcons 

      1 Tackle

The Atlanta Falcons defense performed a make over this off season and Jones will be a big part of the plans going forward. The results  are positive after week 1 as the secondary held Dak Prescott to 163 yards through the air in the Falcons 41-35 road victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

 

8. Michael Penix QB Los Angeles Rams

    17-28 285 Yards 2 TD 5 INT

A solid first 3 quarters of football were overshadowed by a 4th quarter melt down for Penix in which it saw him throw 5 Interceptions all of which we’re taking back for scores as the Rams were outscored 35-7 in the quarter in a 55-24 home defeat to division foe Arizona Cardinals.

 

9. Myles Murphy LE Dallas Cowboys 

Murphy did not register any stats in the 41-35 home loss to the Atlanta Falcons

 

10. Jadon Haselwood WR Pitt Steelers

      1 Reception 18 Yards

Haselwood the top WR in the PML draft was unable to get going in his debut only accounting for one reception on the day in the 52-20 loss at the home at the hands of the Houston Texans. 

 

11. Eli Ricks CB New York Jets 

      2 Tackles 

The Jets addressed an area of need in the PML draft and grabbed one of the top corners on the board and the results are positive as the defense was able to force 3 turnovers in the air in 42-10 home win over the Philadelphia Eagles. 

 

12. Charles Cross LT WFT

Cross the top rated tackle of the PML draft class was instrumental in the teams success racking up over 500 yards of total offense in the 48-10 road win over the San Francisco 49ers.

 

13. Arik Gilbert TE Jacksonville Jaguars

       2 Receptions 22 Yards 1 TD

Trevor Lawrence threw for 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions as the Jacksonville Jaguars struggled to move the ball through the air in a 55-37 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Gilbert was a recipient of one of those touchdown passes for the Jags.

 

14. Maurice Hampton SS Houston Texans

       4 Tackles 1 Fumble Rec 1 Pass Deflection

Hampton the highest rated safety in the draft showed exactly why in his first career game being extremely active as the Houston Texans trounced the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road 52-20.

 

15. Andrew Booth CB Denver Broncos 

      2 Tackles 1 Interception 1 TD

The young corner Booth made an immediate impact in his debut picking off a pass and taking it to the house in the 48-0 home victory over division rival Las Vegas Raiders.


16. Baylor Cupp TE Dallas Cowboys 

Cupp did not register any stats in the 41-35 home loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

 

17. Will Anderson LOLB Los Angeles Rams 

Anderson did not register any stats in the 55-24 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

 

18. Akeem Dent CB Seattle Seahawks 

       2 Tackles 1 Forced Fumble

Dent was able to step in and make an immediate impact impact forcing a fumble as the Seattle secondary held Daniel Jones to 251 yards passing and 0 scores in the air but it wasn’t enough in the 27-14 home loss to the New York Giants. 

 

19. Jordan Burch LE Detroit Lions

        3 Tackles 1 Sack

Burch filled the void left by Trey Flowers whom they traded registering a sack in his first outing as the the Detroit Lions knocked off the Chiefs at home 39-17.

 

20. Justin Flowe ROLB New Orleans Saints

        2 Tackles 1 Interception 1 Pass Deflection

Flowe stepped into a solid young linebacker room in New Orleans and was able to make an instant impact in his debut recording an interception in the impressive 33-13 home win over the Green Bay Packers.

 

21. Demond Demas WR Arizona Cardinals

Demas did not register any stats in the 55-24 road win over the Los Angeles Rams.

 

22. Tyler Vrabel RT Philadelphia Eagles 

The Eagles offense was unable to get going in the 42-10 road loss at the hands of the New York Jets.

 

23. Chris Steele CB Baltimore Ravens 

       1 Tackle 

Steele registered a lone tackle in the 28-24 home loss at the hands of division rival Cleveland Browns. 

 

24. Quavaris Crouch MLB New England Pats

Week 1 @ Buffalo Bills 

 

25. Will Putnam RG Indianapolis Colts

Putnam replaces the retired Anthony Castonzo and the offense did not skip a beat racking up over 120 yards on the ground as the Colts knocked off division foe Tennessee Titans 27-17 at home. 

 

26. Vincent Gray CB WFT

Gray did not register any stats in the 48-10 road victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

 

27. Nakobe Dean MLB New York Giants 

      2 Tackles 

The rookie Dean slides into the middle of the Giants defense and although his numbers may not jump out at you, he did make an impact as the Giants defense turned in a stellar performance limiting Russell Wilson to 105 Yards passing as the Giants knocked off the Seahawks 27-14 on the road.

 

28. Jordan Wilmore RB San Francisco 49ers 

       68 Yards Rushing 6 Rec 30 Yards 1 TD

The first running back off the board of the PML draft turned in a solid debut accounting for 98 all purpose yards and a score as he was the lone bright spot in a disappointing home loss for the 49ers at the hands of the WFT 48-10.

 

29. Mac Jones QB Cincinnati Bengals

Jones did not register any stats in a 55-37 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

 

30. Demarkcus Bowman RB Buffalo Bills

Week 1 vs New England Patriots 

 

31. Taron Vincent DT Minnesota Vikings

Week 1 @ Chicago Bears


32. Jordan McFadden RG Jacksonville Jags

The Jaguars were able to rack up over 350 yards passing and rushing combined but were unable to keep up on the scoreboard in a shootout loss at home vs the Cincinnati Bengals
