NFC South Off Season Report

NFC South Off Season Report

As we enter into week 4 of the PML Pre season, the excitement of a fresh slate of games is in the air. It was an eventful off season in which we saw numerous trades of super star players and draft picks. Some teams strapped against the cap were more hesitant to make moves as they keep an eye towards to future re signings, while others pushed there chips to the middle of the table and have went all in. Let’s take a look at the 3 top off season moves of each team in the NFC South.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-0 NFC South Champs

  1. Bijan Robinson RB
  2. Demani Richardson SS
  3. Carl Nassib RE

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers completed the perfect regular season and made it all the way to the NFC Championship game in 2022 where they suffered a heart breaking defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. They were able to keep most of the team in tact as they look to make another run at the crown. It was a light off season in free agency with the most notable signing being Carl Nassib who will have a role on the defensive line in the 3-4 set for the Bucs. Bijan Robinson was drafted as the heir apparent for the aging Leonard Fournette and Demani Richardson will provide depth in the secondary to make up for the loss of Harrison Smith to free agency.

New Orleans Saints 9-7

  1. Javon Kinlaw DT
  2. Justin Flowe  MLB
  3. Steven Sims WR

The New Orleans Saints were a surprise team in the 2022 making a late season surge and clinching a post season berth. They pulled a trigger on a huge deal in the off season which we saw them send there starting quarterback Trey Lance to the 49ers in exchange for DT Javon Kinlaw and Davis Mills. Kinlaw will make a huge impact in the middle for the Saints in a division that features run heavy offenses. Justin Flowe is a speedy MLB who will fit in nicely into a deep linebacker group as he try’s to carve out a role. Wide receiver Steven Sims was acquired in a trade with the WFT and will provide a deep threat that can stretch the field in which this offense was lacking.

Carolina Panthers 7-9

  1. Mitch Morse C
  2. Mike Jones SS
  3. Jestin Jacobs LOLB

The Carolina Panthers had a quiet off season on the free agency front but they were able to snag one key player who will provide a significant impact. That player is Mitch Morse who will anchor the offensive line and lead a run heavy attack. In the 2023 draft the Panthers were able to snatch up one of Clemson Universities stars SS Mike Jones who will give the Panthers some flexibility on the back end up of the defense and give them the option of moving Jeremy Chinn to FS. Jestin Jacobs is a speedy LB who could carve a role out as a situational player on the defensive side of the ball for the Panthers.

Atlanta Falcons 7-9

  1. Khalil Mack LOLB
  2. Julian Fleming WR
  3. Jaylon Jones CB

The Atlanta Falcons were extremely active this off season acquiring one of the premier pass rushers in the PML Khalil Mack. Acquiring a player of this caliber comes at a price and they were forced to ship off young star CB Aj Terrell to the Chicago Bears. The Falcons addressed his loss in the PML draft by selecting one of the top cornerbacks in the class in Jaylon Jones out of Texas A&M. Jones will start the season as 3rd on the depth chart but should move into the #2 role before seasons end. After trading away Julio Jones, the Falcons needed to address another need and they did that by selecting  wide receiver Julian Fleming out of Ohio St. Fleming will start the season 3rd on the depth chart but should play a significant role in the success of this offense.
