Mock Draft Picks 13-17

  1. Jaguars: Will Anderson Jr, Linebacker, Alabama. The Jags have a solid roster top to bottom but seem to be losing linebacker (right end) Joe Schobert. They are able to replace him quickly with Anderson. Anderson is slightly undersized but there is no questioning his production or ability. Plays bigger than his size. Has a nasty inside rip move. Shows first-step quickness you want out of an undersized pass rusher. Will need to show the ability to anchor against runs at him. Has some frame limitations but should be able to still win consistently at the next level. He has shown the ability to cover running backs and tight ends as well though was rarely called upon to do that. With good coaching he could become a jack of all trades elite linebacker for Jacksonville.
  2. Texans: Arik Gilbert, Tight end, LSU. Texans are loaded all over the place on offense, but one place they can upgrade is at the tight end position. Arik grades out as the best tight end prospect in years. If not for some minor character concerns if would have been a top 8 pick and might still be if someone wants to gamble that high. Will run in the low 4.4 to mid 4.5 range at the combine and place exceptionally well in every other test as well. He can stretch the field vertically like no other tight end in this class. He played both sides of the ball in high school and was actually considered as a better defensive end prospect at one point. That strength shows while breaking tackles and being a willful run blocker. Above average hands with unreal catch radius. Will make the hard plays look easy.
  3. Broncos: Eli Ricks, Cornerback, LSU. Denver made strides this year with Franchise Qb Spencer Rattler but needs to continue to get better if they want to compete in the AFC West. Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert live in this division and they need corners who can help slow down those passing attacks. Ricks Long, athletic 6-2 frame. Can smother an opposing receiver with his long arms which allow him to really excel in press coverage. Has excellent closing speed and elite ball skills. Will gamble at times going for the big play and can occasionally give up long touchdowns this way. Has improved his top-end speed and his ability to run with a receiver down the field. Is more then adequate in run support. Is an extremely instinctive player and always seems to be around the football.
  4. Cowboys: Baylor Cupp, Tight End, A&M. The Cowboys finished last in a very tough NFC East this season. The team has been shopping top Wide out Amari Cooper so we are giving them another pass catching option here in tight end Cupp. Cupp has exceptional size as he’s listed at 6’6 but is a ultra athletic right end who was a standout in the 200 meter dash in high school. You don’t see that often in guys standing 6’6. He will be a matchup nightmare based on his size and speed alone. When you add in the fact that he might be the best blocking tight end in the draft it makes it easy to see why he would be a first round selection. This years draft is tight end heavy or he could have possibly been a higher selection. Will need to develop more as a route runner, and will need to rely on his hands more as sometimes he’s been a body catcher in college.
  5. Lions: Tyler Vrabel, Right Tackle, Boston College Detroit is coming off their first non playoff season this cycle and is looking to retool quickly. They made some moves during the season and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them wheel and deal again. As it stands we have them addressing a major need which is offensive line. Vrabel has shown the ability to play on the left or right side and has even played a few games at guard. He will be able to be a day 1 starter who will help protect the quarterback for years to come. He finished blocks with power, and gets to the second and third levels during run plays. He has above average quickness for the position and it really helps him swallow linebackers during run plays. Having a stronger team in the trenches to go with two all pro wide receivers will make this team very dangerous. Expect another playoff run if this team is able to patch their needs in this draft.
