Week 17 of the PML season is finally upon us and shaping up to be a big one. While the off season planning and preparations has begun for some teams, there are 4 AFC clubs who are looking to punch their ticket to the post season with a shot at the coveted Lombardi Trophy. Those remaining clubs are the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. It’s only fitting that heading into week 17, that these 4 clubs are all matched up vs one another and it comes down to win and your in for 2 of the clubs the Dolphins and Titans, while the Texans and Broncos will need victories and a little help. Let’s take a look at the current standings and the matchups heading into week 17.
In Week 13 the Tennessee Titans knocked off the Houston Texans in a shoot out 40-34. Aaron Rodgers threw for 334 yards and 4 scores while Deshaun Watson was equally impressive throwing for 318 yards and 3 scores of his own. The Titans did a good job of bottling up the Texans lead back Javian Hawkins in that matchup holding him to 56 yards while it was the opposite for the Texans defense as Derek Henry was able to get loose for 116 yards and a score. Who will make the big mistake in this matchup? Both teams are rank in the top 10 in passing but they also both rank in the bottom 3rd in passing defense. Expect a lot of points in this game but ultimately the inability to stop the run for the Houston Texans (27th) will hurt them and Derek Henry and the Titans will be punching their ticket to the post season.
Denver Broncos @ Miami Dolphins
The Denver Broncos have stumbled the past 2 weeks and it has hurt their playoff chances significantly. Losses against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15 and this past week a road loss to divisional rival the Kansas City Chiefs have put a damper on there playoff hopes and now must win and get some help from others to make the post season. The Miami Dolphins are a very interesting team, as they have knocked off some of the top teams in the PML this season (Patriots, Vikings) but have also fell to some of the lesser teams in (Steelers,Jets, Jaguars). After starting 0-4 they have righted the ship and are on the verge of a post season berth with a victory in Week 17. Miami features an offense led by Rookie of the year candidate running back Breece Hall and a balanced passing attack spear headed by Tua Tagovaiola. On defense they enter into week 17 as the #1 pass defense allowing a stingy 217 yards per game. The Broncos offense is led by a solid rookie of their own in quarterback Spencer Rattler who has thrown for over 3,500 yards and 22 TDs in his inaugural season. The lead recipient of those passes is Jerry Jeudy who has over 1200 yards and 12 scores on the season. On the defensive side of the ball it’s the combination of Owen Pappoe and Chris Rumph who have been outstanding combining for 21 sacks and 6 FF on the season. As good as these 2 guys have been, the defense as a whole has struggled mightily, ranking in the bottom 3rd of the PML (28th passing) (25th rushing). Can they slow down Breece Hall? Can Spencer Rattler win a road game against the best pass defense?
