Circus Catch And Electric Defense Lead To Big Upset
The now 4-9 Green Bay Packers hosted and upset the now 9-4 Philadelphia Eagles in an insane showing for the defense. As the Eagles try to maintain the NFC East title, Carson Wentz threw 7 interceptions to the Green Bay defense who flew around the field snatching every ball they could, Rashan Gary had a pick, as well as Jaire Alexander getting his first of the season, Kevin King added another, his 2nd interception in as many weeks, and a pair of picks by Darnell Savage including a game-sealing one where he undercut a post route, and finally two more by Adrian Amos including a pick 6 to end the first half. Add in a forced fumble and sack by Micah Parsons and the Packers held the Eagles to just 24 points, more than 7 points lower than what they were averaging prior to this matchup. The Packers’ offense still had a decent showing, only totaling 283 yards but they were efficient and kept the lead they established, getting a Jason Myers 46 yard field goal and 3 offensive TDs that all went through Aaron Jones. He had 56 rush yards and a TD on the ground, 5 catches for 60 yards, and a TD through the air, but the third score is where it gets interesting. On a 3rd and 9 halfway through the 3rd quarter, the Packers lead was down to 7 after the Eagles opened the second half with a touchdown drive. Jordan Love targeted Aaron Jones who was well covered, and an awkward collision caused the ball to deflect over 15 yards downfield right into the arms of Devin Funchess who was running a post route and he took it 74 yards for a score that would ultimately be the difference for Green Bay. Funchess finished with 6 receptions for 104 yards and that long touchdown. Coach Cohn now moves to 3-1 since taking over and this becomes his first win against a team above .500 and gives more hope they will contend next season.
