Davante Payday Pays Off

Coach Cohn and the Green Bay Packers traveled to Los Angeles to face the Rams in a matchup of NFC bottom feeders. But before they traveled to the west coast, Davante Adams won NFC player of week 12 with 6 receptions for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns being the only bright spot in their loss to the jets. It was a well-deserved accolade for Adams he’d be rewarded again with a huge contract extension from Green Bay of 4 Years- $89.2M for the 29 year old receiver originally out of Fresno State. But, in his first game since securing his future with the Packers, he was shadowed by Jalen Ramsey and the Rams defense all game with only 2 catches for 30 yards amid the stagnant offense until the 4th quarter comeback and explosion. With Green Bay down 13-20 on their own side of the field at the 2-minute warning, the chances of winning, and winning in regulation, were slim. But a methodical drive lead to a Jace Sternberger 16 yard grab down to the 1-yard line where an Aaron Jones rushing touchdown with just 45 seconds remaining led straight to the defense coming up with a big quick 3 and out stop to give Jordan love a chance to redeem his awful showing that included 3 interceptions. The Packers moved the ball well with short completions and good clock management by Coach Cohn as the plan seemed to be to get into field goal range and have Jason Myers knock through a game-winner. Davante Adams had different plans, however. On a 2nd a 3 from their own 46 with 20 seconds left in the game and only 1 timeout, Davante Adams finally did what he does best. He got the best of Jalen Ramsey on a beautiful slant route, catching the ball 13 yards past the line of scrimmage and running 41 more yards, and finally getting tackled into the end zone with just 12 seconds left. The special teams and defensive units made sure Adams’ amazing play was not spoiled by a miracle and closed the game after a great tackle in bounds by Kevin King drained the final seconds when the Rams attempted to move a couple of yards closer for a Hail Mary. King also recorded an interception earlier in the game. This game may not have had playoff implications, but it was a thriller and was the first true test of resilience for Coach Cohn and he handled it well, completing the comeback and getting the job done without any overtime necessary.
