As we enter into the final stretch division races are heating up! One of the most interesting divisions that has the PML world buzzing is the NFC East. Week 12 featured a GOTW matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Football Team which we saw the underdog Eagles (+4.5) go on into FedEX Field and win a statement game in convincing fashion (26-14). As of week 13, Philadelphia currently sits on top of the division at (9-3), but upon further review we don’t see that being the case after the final whistle in week 17. Let’s take a closer look at the final stretch for 3 teams, Eagles, Giants and Football Team and how we see this division shaking out.
Philadelphia Eagles (9-3) 1st NFC East
Philadelphia is one of the hottest teams in the PML at the moment as they have reeled off 5 straight wins. Week 13 featured a road contest for these Eagles @ New York Giants, and once again they showed that they do there talking on the field and not in the chat room, with a 24-17 road victory. This was the second win for the Eagles over the Giants as they knocked them off 2 weeks prior to this 48-31. The recipe for victory in both games was quite simple, a steady dosage of Miles Sanders and a no fly zone defense that is becoming a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks throughout the league. During this 5 game winning streak we have seen Miles Sanders rush for a ridiculous 718 yards and 8 TDs. On the defensive side Avante Maddox and the secondary have racked up 17 interceptions during this stretch. The Eagles are soaring high right now for sure, but we see some matchups down the stretch run that could trip them up. Week 14 the Eagles head out to the friendly confines of Lambeau Field and pay a visit to the upstart Green Bay Packers who are 2-1 since making a change at the coaching position. On paper this looks like a cake walk, but a young motivated head coach in Green Bay is looking to make a name for himself and we see this as a trap game for the Eagles as a week 15 matchup vs one of their divisional rivals the Washington Football team looms. The football team will be looking to avenge the loss in Week 12, and we think that they will find a way to slow down Miles Sanders and get the win. Week 16 the Eagles play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence. The Eagles will prevail in this game as the Jaguars rank in the bottom 3rd in rushing defense. Then that brings us to week 17. In week 17, the NFC north leading Vikings will be making a trip to Lincoln Financial field in which could be a pivotal matchup for playoff seeding as well as the NFC East crown. The Vikings with the NFC north well in hand, will most likely be competing for the #2 seed come week 17. This game should have significant meaning as they would like to solidify that position so they only have to make one road trip if any during the post season. Home games in the friendly confines of their dome stadium and not having to deal with the elements will be important especially with a young signal caller in Jamie Newman. With that being said, we see the Vikings knocking off the Eagles and shaking up the NFC East completely.
Week 14 @ Packers. Loss
Week 15 vs Redskins. Loss
Week 16 vs Jaguars. Win
Week 17 vs Vikings. Loss
New York Giants (8-4) 2nd NFC East
The New York Giants have already completed there week 13 matchup, a home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles (24-17). Any division loss stings, but this one hurts even more as it gives the Eagles the advantage in any tie breaker scenario as they have now beat them 2 times this season, week 11 (48-31). The Giants have been with the injury bug as of late, with key members of the defensive line going down with injuries, Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams and it was evident in the losses to Philadelphia. Week 14 features a matchup vs division foe, Washington Football team. Earlier in the season in Week 3 the Giants were able to knock off the Football team (30-24) @ Met Life Stadium. In that game it was the Saquon Barkley show as he rushed for 3 scores, and the Giants at full strength bottled up the Football team rushing attack holding lead back Bryce Love to 54 yards on the ground. We think this may be an issue and something that Washington will look to exploit in this game, and if the defense can slow down Barkley, we see the Football team coming out on top. Week 15 & 17 are matchups vs America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are a solid team despite the record (5-6) and shouldn’t be taken lightly as they feature the PMLs leading rushing attack led by Ezekiel Elliot, which could be an issue if the Giants 30th ranked run defense isn’t at full strength. We think that ultimately the clubs split the matchups. Week 16 is a matchup vs the upstart Green Bay Packers who we mentioned earlier who are looking to prove to the league they are as good as the hype. What would send some shock waves through the league? Another Packers victory, mark it down.
The Washington Football currently the long shot of the 3 teams, sits in 3rd in the division. Following the Week 12 GOTW loss to the Eagles, the Football Team played a get right game vs the not so easy CPU Jaguars. We know that CPU is no slouch, but the Football team was able to get back in the win column with a convincing (35-10) win on the road. The Football team has the toughest schedule of the 3 clubs, but we think this will bring out the best in them and that they will be fired up especially Dwayne Haskins and the offense. Week 14 they will play host to the New York Giants, and as mentioned earlier the Giants are banged up on the defensive line. We think that The Football team designs a game plan to attack the (30th) ranked run defense, and ultimately put the clamps on Saquon Barkley and come out victorious. Week 15 another divisional test vs the Philadelphia Eagles on the road will be revenge game #2. Look for Haskins to bounce back from the 4 interceptions in week 12, not turn the ball over in the red-zone and for Bryce Love to be more involved in the ground game. Similar to the New York Giants game plan, shutting down the run attack which features red hot Miles Sanders is the key to victory and we think they will be up to task. Week 16 will be a matchup vs Tennessee Titans (5-6). The Titans are much better then the record shows, having played a tough schedule vs some of the PMLs best (Chargers, Patriots, Ravens) which they knocked off the latter. The one weakness of the Titans team is defending the pass as they are the (30th) pass defense. This will be an issue when your facing The Football Team as this is there bread and butter (2nd) passing yards game and they will come out on the losing end. Week 17 the NFC West leading Seahawks make the always daunting cross country trip to FedEx Field. The Seahawks have played solid football throughout the season, but strength of schedule could be a product of that. The PML league felt that was shown by the tough week 12 home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders (3-8). The Seahawks offense is led by dual threat Rashaad Penny who has been a terror both catching and running this season. I think the Football team makes a point to spy him throughout the game bringing down the strong safety into the box and forcing the Seahawks to try and beat them in the air, and I don’t think they will be able to accomplish that. When all is said and done, the Football Team will run the table and will be wearing the tee shirts and hats saying NFC East champs.
