Cincinnati Bengals Ross III & Mixon to Accept 4 Game Suspension; Will Miss Start of 2021 Season
Just when you thought things could not have gotten worse for the Cincinnati Bengals to kick off the Madden 21 cycle, their two top performing offensive performing players will both start off the 2021 season on the PML suspension list. The Bengals, who finished the disappointing 2020 campaign with a 2-14 record, will need to find new players makers to step up when they begin the 2021 season.
John Ross III, a much controversial piece of the Bengals passing attack, finished the season with 1,626 yards to go with 18 touchdowns. While to most it seems like a top tier stat line, his 35.3 yards per reception violated the PML threshold, ultimately landing Ross III on the suspension list. A disappointing end to a breakout season for the 4th year wide receiver, as the off-season finally seen him land the ‘star’ deviation he has been playing for all season. Ross III was at time criticized for his big play abilities this season, as Burrow fed the speedy wideout over the top any time the opportunity presented itself. His presence alone on the field will be missed as defenses zoned in on him allowing Burrow to use him as a decoy when necessary sending defenses into a quagmire.
If losing John Ross III wasn’t enough, Joe Mixon will be sitting right next to him for the first quarter of the season. Mixon, a true workhorse back provided the Bengals with firepower both on the ground (1,771/13) and in the air (346/1). Mixon violated the leagues maximum reception % policy, all confirmed during the Bengals week 17 loss to the Ravens. The Bengals, who had an opportunity to sit Mixon to avoid any risk, went ahead and played the 4th year back leaving many around the league scratching their heads. “Wasn’t paying attention to any of the player stat violations”, says Rodriguez. “Was just trying to win a game that was very important to other teams in the league”, Rodriguez went on to add. Mixon led the much-criticized wildcat attack that kept defenses on their toes.
How will these two suspensions effect the Bengals off season approach? With the aging A.J. Green set to walk, and trade rumors involving Tate and Higgins, Ross will play 1A to Tyler Boyd this upcoming season. It will be interesting to see how they spend money at wide receiver to fill the void left by the speedy wide receiver. Ever so interesting will be the running back position as well. Behind Mixon is long time Bengal Giovanni Bernard, who may once again be summoned to take his place as the Bengals number one running back. The Bengals own the number 3 pick in the draft and upgrading the offense will be a priority to Rodriguez if the pick isn’t dealt. Stand by Bengals fans, this should be interesting.
