The Eagles will have a projected negative cap space, which means they will not be able to resign any of their upcoming free agents. Currently, the players set to leave the organization are LT Jason Peters, HB Boston Scott, LE Terrell Suggs, RE Vinny Curry, DT Hassan Ridgeway, LOLB Brooks Reed, LOLB Duke Riley, MLB Alex Singleton, ROLB Nathan Gerry, CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, CB Vernon Hargreaves, CB CreVon Leblanc, FS HaHa Clinton-Dix, SS Will Parks, and SS Jalen Mills.
Most of these free agents are on the defensive side of the ball and will leave the Eagles with gaping holes at the linebacker, safety, and the cornerback position. The Eagles linebackers are possibly the worst in the league at the moment and losing these free agents will put them in a dire need of talent. Look for them to take a long look at the upcoming linebacker draft class and pick which one fits with their scheme the best.
The Eagles will be left with pro bowler Slay JR and Avonte Maddox as their only corners so they will need to pick up at least two corners to meet the minimum roster requirement next season. Depending on who is there at pick 10, the Eagles could quickly grab the best corner in the draft if he falls to them. With the defensive line mainly staying in tack the Eagles may go this route to keep up with the status quo of the league.
Taking a look at the entire roster, the defense will have many needs and the Eagles draft will be a defensive draft. Coach Skellington has not given any indication that he will be doing a lot of cuts to older players this offseason as most of their contracts end next season. The wait and see approach for the Eagles will be taken, with season 3 being their targeted year to finally have a lot of free space.
