After 5 straight weeks of losing, the Philadelphia Eagles have finally won a game. In week 11 the Eagles faced off against the Cleveland Browns in a game that has now built confidence for the team. The Eagles were not able to contain the always dangerous Odell Beckham JR, however, they were able to contain the rest of the Browns team resulting in a 37-22 win for the Eagles.
The Eagles offense was on fire this game and for the most part could not be stopped. Carson Wentz completed 11 passes for 338 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wentz felt comfortable throwing against the Browns secondary, as he and newly acquired Keke Coutee had a special connection this game. Coutee caught 4 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown, including a 80 yard catch. With the loss of speedster Goodwin, rumors had it that the Eagle offense would spudder. We can see that this was not the case, as the Eagles received a star in the making. The run game has been sporadic this season, but Miles Sanders proved that when given a chance, he can deliver. He rushed for 121 yards on 15 attempts and, given the opportunity, could have had a lot more.
For just the third time this season, the Eagles held their opponent under 23 points this season. They have proven that when they hold that stat line, they don’t lose. The defense played with a bend but don’t break approach as they allowed Odell Beckham JR to run all through the secondary on his way to a monster game, however, he was the only Browns player besides a fb to score. Surprisingly, the defense registered no sacks this game, however, the pressure that they brought forced 4 interceptions. At different points throughout the game, it seemed as if Browns quarterback Mayfield was hearing footsteps. The pass defense ranks in the top 10 and if they can continue to force teams to pass on them, then they will have a shot in each game.
The Eagles have been a bottom dwelling afterthought this season. Between the turnovers, losing at the end of games, and bad decision making, they were on a 5 game losing streak. With that streak broken, it turns out that they still have a chance at making the playoffs. Currently, they are outside of 3 teams looking into the playoffs. It won’t be easy as they have a tough schedule ahead, but if they play complete games like this one then they will be able to compete for the rest of the season. The Eagles face off against the division leading Seattle Seahawks who will be looking to keep their hold on their division.
