Uncategorized·2 min readSEASON 2 DRAFTPML_Rams·November 8, 2019 The Rams went into the Season 2 Draft looking to fill some wholes along the offensive line left vacant by the retirement of Left Tackle Andre Whidworth. The right side of the offensive line is set with RG Blythe and RT Havenstein so we were looking to secure the future on the left side. Early in the scouting process when we met with LT Andrew Thomas we felt he could potentially be there when we drafted. Unfortunately, he ended up being selected 4th by the Cleveland Browns. That left LG Alex Leatherwood and LT Walker Little on our draft board as the top two offensive lineman worth taking with the 8th overall pick. After much back and forth conversation as to who would fit our run scheme better we ended up select LG Leatherwood, We also considered taking who we thought was the top pick in the draft in S Deplit. Leatherwood had some pretty decent ratings coming into the PML. We feel like he will be the cornerstone at LG for years to come. In the 2nd round we also filled a need on the defensive line in selecting the top DT on the draft board in Justin Madubuike. He’s a big DT who showed quickness and a burst to get to the QB. In the 3rd round we looked to secure up the defensive line and add some depth to a depleted d-line. Nick Coe was high on our board and when he fell to us we couldn’t resist selecting him. He’ll fit right in our 4-3 defensive line scheme.During the off-season we lost depth at the outside linebacker position with the departure of Clay Matthews. So when MLB Evan Weaver was available we liked his gritty play at the position in college and knew we had to grab him. He wasn’t very good at just one thing but his combine numbers suggested he would be an all around jack of all trade and someone who could come in and contribute right away at Middle Linebacker alongside Martinez. Our 5th round selection was moved to obtain DE Murphy from Buffalo who filled in so nice that we decided to bring him back for Season 2. Our 5th round pick has probably showed the most potential of the bunch early on in pre-season. CB Jeff Gladney has made plays all pre-season and is pushing our starter cornerbacks for a starting spot either at the 2nd spot on our depth chart or as our Nickelback. We finished the draft with a RG to add some depth on the right side of the O-Line with the selection of RG John Molchon. He’s in a battle to possibly start at center or fill in should any o-lineman get hurt during the season. We didn’t have the best draft but we love all the players we selected and feel they’ll bring some much needed competition to our roster. CB Jeff Gladney may be the biggest surprise in the 6th round. Can’t wait to get this season started and to get these rookies on the field and in pads.
